Growing or Shrinking
An aging baby boomer population, a demographic skewed towards older citizens, and an increasing percentage of second homes would result in a decreasing population in San Juan County under one scenario from the state Office of Financial Management.
The OFM’s 2002 estimate of the 2010 county population was almost exact. The actual 2010 population according to the census was 15,769; the OFM’s 2002 estimate predicted a population of 15,801 – a difference of 31.
Those figures were from the low rate figures. OFM provides three different estimates based on a low, medium and high growth rate.
